1. Mulligans Hollow

Mulligan’s Hollow Ski Bowl , located near the waterfront just behind the Tri-Cities YMCA and next to the Imagination Station , is a great place to spend your snowy days and nights. They have incredible family-friendly downhill skiing on lighted paths including tow ropes. There are eight runs to choose from so you’ll never get bored. And when you get too cold, warm up by the outdoor fire pit or inside with a warm drink next to the fire place. Rentals and lessons are available. Daily passes range from $8-16; contact the Ski Bowl for hours.

2. Aldea

Our favorite local Coffee shop! Aldea located 17 S. 2nd St., Grand Haven, MI 49417 in the armory right behind Buffalo Bob’s. It is a great atmosphere to catch up with friends, work, and enjoy some fresh brewed coffee. The company works directly with farmers who live in the mountains of La Union, Honduras to get their specialty coffee. All of their products are purchased above fair trade and they even name their coffee after the farmer who produced it. My personal favorite is the light roast Alfredo coffee, it has a great smooth flavor. Not a coffee drinker? Their lavender lemonade is to die for. Also the employees are super friendly! If you haven’t been check it out!!

3. Sledding

Sledding is a timeless activity that is fun for the kids and the kids at heart. Grand Haven is full of fun sledding parks including, Duncan Woods, Pigeon Creek and often even your own backyard! Sledding is a great way to get outside and get some exercise on a cold winter’s day, so grab your sleds, tubes, and toboggan and head outside. Don’t have a sled? No problem- Many small town shops and local supermarkets sell them during the winter months. Don’t forget a hat and mittens!

5. Ice Fishing

Fishing is a year round activity in the Grand Haven area. The bitter winter weather brings ice thick enough for ice fishing. There are many great locations in the area including Bruce’s Bayou and Lloyd’s Bayou off the Grand River and Petty’s Bayou in Spring Lake. Anglers come from near and far to test their luck at catching panfish, bluegill, northern pike, and crappies in the west michigan lakes. The ice usually thickens around Christmas. Make sure you have the proper safety equipment and drill to have the best experience. For more information on the local contact the experts at  Fish On Bait & Tackle.

6. Movies

Michigan weather can be unpredictable to say the least! On those murky and rainy winter days a movie at the Grand Haven 9 is the perfect family friendly event. Featuring pictures on 9 screens in stadium seating and rocking chairs. They offer free drink refills on any size drink and 50¢ popcorn refills on all sizes of popcorn. Tickets range from $5.50-8.50 and can be purchased at the theater or online. For more information on movie times and shows visit: https://www.goodrichqualitytheaters.com/movies

The downtown districts of Grand Haven have an assortment of shops and restaurants for the public enjoyment. Even in the winter downtown Grand Haven will not disappoint. The sidewalks even have a special snowmelt system to keep you safe, comfortable, and surefooted as you shop. Plan your shopping trip to Grand Haven, or Spring Lake and check the many boutiques, galleries, wineries, and specialty shops. Don’t forget about free samples! Many of the shops such as Great Harvest Bread Company and Blueberry Haven have samples for your enjoyment and when your done shopping dine at one of the many restaurants in the area.
